Emerging sprinter Dyna Oscar maintained his undefeated record by claiming a hard fought victory at his third career appearance at Sandown Park tonight.
The Andrea Dailly trained son of Fernando Bale came into the race following his impressive maiden final win last Thursday night in which he stopped the clock a slick 29.46. Jumping from box 8 tonight, he was forced to work hard after a moderate get away, finding trouble at the first turn before taking a gap between runners and racing to the lead down the back. From there he proved too strong for the plucky Dyna Nancy to score by 2.5 lengths in 29.87.
It was an impressive performance from the greyhound still a month shy of his second birthday, and connections believe there could be some big things in store for him.
“He’s a young pup with potential. He did a good job tonight, he was in a bit of trouble and he pushed through. He’s strong but he’s not showing his early pace yet. Once he puts it all together I’m hoping he could be a dog that goes places,” said handler Tom Dailly.
“I was pleased with the effort he put in because he could easily have thrown in the towel and not run anywhere but he did a good job.”
Despite the heats of the Launching Pad, a $410,000 group 2 sweepstakes series for greyhounds with 1-6 wins just six weeks away, Dailly is aiming higher with the potential star.
“If he keeps going the way he’s going I’ll put him in the Australian Cup. I’ll probably put him in at the Meadows next Wednesday and see how he goes.”
The win continues the kennel’s hot start to 2018. The win was Dailly’s 36th at Victoria’s metropolitan tracks since 1 January, including 18 at full stakes. From the 16 city meetings at which they’ve raced, they have gone home without a winner on just one occasion.
“The team is going well so hopefully it keeps going.”
