Armchair guide to the world’s richest greyhound race


It’s TAB Melbourne Cup night! Greyhound racing’s night of nights, starring the fastest greyhounds in the land chasing the $420,000 winner’s cheque.

But the action isn’t restricted to the track – as well as exciting racing action on the track, there’s a ton of entertainment off it with a heap of prizes and giveaways off it.

Here’s all you need to know ahead of the biggest night in the sport of greyhound racing.

How to get there:
Drive: Free parking is available on View Road, and on Lightwood Road opposite the Sandown Park train station.
Train: Sandown Park station is on the Dandenong/Pakenham/Cranbourne line. The track is a two minute walk from the station
Time: Gates open at 5pm, Dave Carlson and James Van de Maat calling
TV: Sky Racing 1 (channel 526)

First race: 6.47pm
TAB Melbourne Cup: race 8 at 9.28pm
Distance: 515m
Race record: 29.16 (Dyna Double One, 2015)
Prizemoney: $600,000 (1st $420,000 + trophy and rug), 2nd: $120,000, 3rd: $60,000. Each finalist also won $12,000 for winning their heat last week
