Fast5 – 29 June 2017

Tonight’s racing features some of Australia’s hottest middle distance chasers finalising their preparations for next Thursday’s group 2 McKenna Memorial, but we kick things off with an intriguing maiden final with some exciting prospects stepping out for the second time.

1. Not out of the text book
There aren’t many dogs that made their names as stayers that are used at stud, nor are there many broods that have had over 100 starts. Which makes tonight’s opening race all the more remarkable with four members of the same Jarvis Bale-Carol Allen litter making the maiden final. Jarvis Bale of course was the winner of the 2009 National Distance Championship. He contested a remarkable 29 group race finals, winning two and being placed on a further 12 placings, retiring with $286,341 in prize money from 109 starts. Carol Allen meanwhile was a four time group 1 finalist that won 24 times in 113 race starts

2. On the flip side…
Zara’s Entity (race 1), the fastest heat winner in tonight’s maiden final, is by Mogambo (28 starts and $48,545 in prize money) out of Girl Aloud which never graced the track, but has produced a number of good chasers including Evie’s Entity and Cut Loose Max.

3. Winning big
Midnight Elsa (race 7), the least experienced RSN Sandown Cup finalist in modern times, returns to Sandown Park for the first time since running fourth in the world’s richest race stayers. She’s won six of her nine career starts, and when she’s won it’s been emphatic – her average winning margin is 11 lengths!

4. The picket fence
Van Ann (race 7) is one of the country’s most promising staying types making her Sandown Park debut tonight. She’s won her last six starts, including her last three over 600m at The Meadows. She has placed in all 10 of her career starts, however all but one start has been in restricted win company. She jumps in a mixed 4/5 tonight.

5. Down in class
Ebby Ripper’s last 15 starts have been in a Special Event or higher. She won just two races in that period including the Listed Cup Night Stayers on RSN Sandown Cup night but had been placed in seven others. She lines up in a restricted win event tonight (race 4). Prior to this current run, Ebby Ripper had won four in a row.

Around the Australia
The Brisbane Winter Cup heats will be run at Albion Park tonight, featuring the likes of Melbourne Cup winner Ando’s Mac, Sapphire Crown winner Maja Mahi Mahi, and one of the country’s most poipular chasers Worm Burner, as well as local stars including Fast Times and Outside Pass.
