18-year-old crowned Top Dog

18-year-old Paul Delaroche left Sandown Park on Thursday night $10,000 richer after taking out the Top Dog Tipping final.

A keen follower of greyhound racing, Delaroche arrived at the track with high confidence having started the night on fire.

“I had footy training then came straight to the track, I was on my way knowing I’d already tipped four winners.”

A countback was required to decide the winner after points were tied following the final race of tipping, the RSN Sandown Cup.

Delaroche plans to hang on to the winners cheque with an aim to buy his first car.

“It was a great feeling. I’ll put the money away and continue to save for my first car.”

The Top Dog Tipping final was part of what was a huge night at Sandown Park. Fanta Bale created history becoming the first greyhound to win at the highest level over all three metropolitan distances.
