Fernando Bale sires first city win

Fernando Bale sired his first city winner on Thursday night at Sandown Park.

Baby Huey (Fernando Bale x Sweet Shadow) took out the GRV Vic Bred Maiden Final, having led all of the way in 29.94 for father and son combination Paul and Ray Bartolo.

The win continued the Bartolo family’s remarkable record in Vic Bred Maiden series’, being their 6th series win at metropolitan level. Ironically, Oshkosh Yobbo who finished 2nd in the event is also sired by Fernando.

The first winner out of Fernando Bale was Oshkosh Erny Vee who won at Geelong in late March. Of Baby Huey’s litter, three are currently in Ireland racing under the guidance of Tom O’Donovan.

Baby Huey and Oshkosh Erny Vee join many of Fernando’s progeny to have made their race track debuts in recent months – as of Thursday night he had a total of 31 individual greyhounds start, for 72 total starts, 1st – 10, 2nd – 7 and 3rd – 8.

Fernando Bale won 35 of his 44 career starts which included seven Group 1 wins and $1.3m in prize money. Breeders across the country will be hoping his offspring can emulate his on-track heroics.
