Jimmy Newob ready for take-off

The exciting Jimmy Newob is Launching Pad bound following his emphatic win last night at Sandown Park.

After an impressive heat win on Sunday, all eyes were on Jimmy Newob in the restricted win final. He exploded out of box 7 and in no time set up a seven length lead mid-race, he maintained the break and went on to win in 29.57 – the fastest time of the night.

“He can jump but he hasn’t been doing it all the time, he did it tonight and gave himself that clean cross to the rail that he needed. Once he got to the front I was confident they weren’t going to run him down,” said co-trainer Melissa Fullerton post-race.

The win was Jimmy Newob’s fifth from seven career starts and along the way he has caught the eye of many greyhound experts with his owners having knocked back multiple offers.

“There’s a big team of owners – they bought two dogs from New South Wales and he was one of them.”

The Fullerton family have had a long history in greyhound racing and already believe Jimmy Newob is the best greyhound they’ve ever had.

“He’s already the best dog our family has ever had. Mum and Dad had a few smart ones years ago but nothing like him.”

Jimmy Newob is one of many young talented greyhounds that will head to the $410,000 Launching Pad series. Heats will be run on Thursday March 30, semi-finals and consolation heats Thursday April 6, with finals to be run on Thursday April 13 in conjunction with Sandown Park’s annual Easter Kids Fun Night.
