Worm Burner moves to Victoria

South Australian superstar Worm Burner has joined the in-form Jason Thompson kennel.

Worm Burner comes to Victoria after 64 starts under the guidance of his owner Cameron Butcher. Of those, 38 wins and 15 placings earning $302,300.

“He arrived earlier this week. He’s never been away from home or away from his owners, we didn’t know how he was going to settle in but he’s settled in unbelievably well,” revealed Thompson.

Worm Burner will have time to settle in before making his debut as a Victorian in the coming weeks. He will bypass Wentworth Park’s Golden Easter Egg series and instead head to Sandown Park where he is no stranger, having been a finalist in last year’s Shootout and TAB Melbourne Cup.

“He’ll be racing sooner rather than later – best case scenario he’ll be racing later this month or early next month. We intend to target Sandown with him and do a lot of his racing there. With series’ like Speed Star and the Harrison Dawson we’re going to really hone in.”

Worm Burner joins a host of greyhounds from the kennel with the Bill Collins Speed Star in sight.

“If they stay sound, I’m planning to have seven try and qualify. Aston Dee Bee, Big Flood, Extreme Magic, Burn One Down, Buck Forty now Worm Burner and possibly Nature’s Gent.”

The Bill Collins Speed Star will see eight of Australia’s fastest greyhounds race in four match races Thursday 11 May with the winner of each match taking home $10,000. The fastest greyhound of the night will pick up an additional $15,000 and be crowned the Bill Collins Speed Star.
