Two Dollar Pots a popular pick

Diners let out an almighty roar on Thursday night as the popular Two Dollar Pots prevailed in the 10th at Sandown Park.

Two Dollar Pots flew out of box 3 and led Fearless John and Kelly Hook down the back straight before holding them both at bay to win by ¾ of a length in 29.71.

“He was great tonight. This is his grade, once he creeps up in grade he finds it a bit tougher,” said trainer Les Hughes following the win.

“He’s the best dog I’ve got at the moment – he’s keeping me happy.”

Two Dollar Pots or Greg as he’s known at home, was bred by Hughes then sold to a long time friend.

“I bred him then sold him to a friend of mine who currently owns him. He’s the owner on paper but he’s got a fair few friends who are pretty excited about the dog. I’ve been friends with his father in-law for 45 years – he approached me and said ‘the boys want to buy a dog’.”

Owner Greg Elmore wasn’t on-track to witness the win due to work commitments.

“He’s not here tonight as he had to work. He said ‘the last time he won I wasn’t there, so it’s probably better I’m not there’.”

$2 pots are available during happy hour at Sandown Park, 6-8pm Thursday nights.
