Royal Turbo ignites for Nolan family

Royal Turbo announced himself onto the Victorian scene last night with a gutsy win.

He began fairly from the wide alley then mustered tremendous pace allowing him to cross to the rail. Lucky Seed challenged Royal Turbo throughout the later stages however was no match. The final margin ½ a length in 29.84.

Son of trainer Justin Nolan and handler on the night, Brandon, was full of praise following the win.

“We were rapt with his run last night, he gives his all and that’s all we want him to do,” said Nolan.

The win was Royal Turbo’s 2nd start in Victoria after he began his racing career in New South Wales. Before making the move to Victoria, Royal Turbo claimed the Group 3 Christmas Gift at Wentworth Park at odds of $19.80.

“He was sent down a couple of weeks ago for the Silver Chief heats but was a little bit underdone. His owners (McKinley Hogan Syndicate) were curious to see if he was capable of matching it with Victorian sprinters.”

“He will most likely have another start down here then he’ll head back to Wentworth Park for the National Derby.”

The Nolan family had a long stint away from greyhound racing but have recently returned to the sport.

“We only got back involved with greyhounds about 12 months ago, we bought a property in Devon Meadows but only have a small racing team at the moment.”

Nolan, 23, spends most of his time working as an Electrician however enjoys helping out at home when time allows.

“Mum and Dad do a lot of the work with the dogs, but weekends when I’m not working and on weekends the whole family’s out there helping out.”

Royal Turbo’s win wasn’t the only highlight on the night as Buck Forty reminded punters that he is still one of Australia’s finest sprinters. He took out the Grade 5 final in outstanding fashion and set a hot time of 29.28 in the process – running home in a phenomenal 10.31.
