Landon lands metro final

Landon continued the brilliant start to his racing career with a 2¼ length win in last night’s restricted win final at Sandown Park.

As he did in his heat on Sunday, Landon began swiftly and led most of the way. Owner and trainer John McIntyre was delighted and is optimistic about the rest of Landon’s racing career.

“I was very happy with him – he’s a nice and very promising young dog,” said McIntyre.

“I expected him to do what he did. All the good tipsters didn’t really like him but I told my mates he’s only got to do what he did in his heat and he’ll be very hard to beat.”

Landon has finished 1st or 2nd in 10 of his 13 career starts, the three unplaced runs seemed to be due to a minor health issue.

“The three runs Landon was unplaced in he had a problem I wasn’t aware of – I got his blood tested and he had a bug. Since recovering he’s back to his best.”

Landon is one of just three racing greyhounds in McIntyre’s Ripplebrook kennel, who all hail from the same litter bred by Geoff Collins.

“I raced their mother Set To Talk – Geoff is a mate of mine and I used to rear a lot of his dogs, I sold her to him.”

McIntyre has trained greyhounds as a hobby for 53 years.

“Years ago I owned a greyhound and had no intention racing him – I ended up taking him to Sandown one night and he ran 2nd and since then I’ve had the bug. I love the dogs.”

One of Sandown Park’s more popular promotions, Money Back Month, continues next Thursday night – everyone who invests in our Punters Club will get their money back at a minimum 100% guaranteed. The night will also be highlighted by TAB Melbourne Cup Prelude Series 1.
