Team Dailly notch up a double

Team Dailly notched up a pair of wins last night at Sandown Park with Snakebite Bale and Benny Mac.

Snakebite Bale the more impressive of the duo, was slow to begin and settled near last in the initial stages. As we’ve seen him do on many occasions he wound up and charged home to snare what looked to be an unlikely win.

Tom Dailly conceded that Snakebite Bale has not been at his best but now believes a rise in confidence has resulted in a return to form.

“He was going quite ordinary for while but his recent runs have been fantastic. It was a big win last night, that’s what he’s capable of.”

Snakebite Bale’s next major task will be the Victorian heats of the National Sprint Championship – to be held at The Meadows on Saturday 6 August.

“Although he’s slow early he can be competitive against the best so we’ve nominated him for the National heats – we’ll see how he goes.”

Snakebite Bale’s return to form raises the question of if he takes aim at the Speed Star – to be run at Sandown Park September 1 with qualifying trials to be held throughout August.

“The way he’s going I wouldn’t discount it – there’s definitely dogs around that are quicker than him, but on his own he can run some very fast times so I suppose we’d have to give him a shot.”

Benny Mac, owned by the Dailly’s completed their winning double later in the night.

“He just needs a clear run as he hasn’t got that much early pace – he’s no superstar but he’s certainly very competitive. He got the right run last night and did all the right things so it was great to see.

“He’s a very nice dog to have at home – bit of a battler but he tries really hard which is all you can ask for.”

Since the retirement of two of the greatest of all time Fernando Bale and Dyna Double One, the Dailly’s Corio kennel hasn’t been in the spotlight it once was during last year’s TAB Melbourne Cup carnival.

“Having no superstars around the kennel now probably makes us appreciate the run we had with Fernando and Double One more than we did – not that we took it for granted. With them they gave you a sense of confidence when going to the track, with the rest of our dogs they get your brain working to find out out where their next win is coming from. It’s quite refreshing.”
