Bomber’s plans outlined

One of greyhound racing’s more popular stars Blazin’ Bomber rises in distance tonight at Sandown Park.

Tonight will mark his first start back in Victoria after a month long campaign in Queensland for the Winter Cup carnival at Albion Park. After a stunning performance in his heat he was unable to replicate the run the following week amongst tough company.

“He produced a massive run in his heat but got posted a bit wide in the final,” explained trainer and former test cricketer Darren Pattinson.

Although being regarded as one of the strongest greyhounds in the country over 515m, Blazin’ Bomber has just had two starts over 595m – the distance the will race over tonight.

“He’s the sort of dog that will run 595m with no worries – he’s probably better suited to it but with a dog of his caliber you have to give him a go at the feature sprint races.”

The run will be used in preparation for next month’s AGRA Nationals – heats of the Victorian Sprint Championship will be held at The Meadows on Saturday 6 August.

“I wanted to run him before the Nationals so he’ll have one or two starts before then – he’s better kept fresh for the big races.”

The reigning Speed Star champ is likely to defend his title in September’s edition of the series.

“I haven’t looked that far yet – if he’s going well it’s likely he’ll go again.”

Blazin’ Bomber headlines race 6 tonight which will jump at 7.45pm.
