Azzopardi juggernaut rolls on

The Anthony Azzopardi juggernaut rolled on last night at Sandown Park.

Master Jackpot and Asa Hard Knox quinelled the first leg of the quaddie before Brilliant Shot competed the winning double for the kennel later in the night.

“It was a great result, they went really well,” said a pleased Azzopardi.

Master Jackpot highlighted the pair of wins saluting by six lengths in best-of-night time of 29.33.

“He was great as it was his first look at the track – he finally got clear running and was able to show what he can really do.”

The double contributed to an incredible run of success since Azzopardi relocated from New South Wales to Victoria. Since making the move Azzopardi has trained 105 winners from 324 starters – a 32% winning strike rate.

“I’ve had similar runs when I was living in New South Wales, but now racing in Victoria, with the quality of greyhounds and trainers, I’d probably regard this run as the best I’ve had.”

Azzopardi was well prepared prior to making the move to Victoria having built an elite greyhound training facility in Myrniong, 72 kilometers North West of Melbourne.

“Victorian greyhound racing is always moving forward and I’ve always loved Victoria as a state. I thought this is the place to be racing greyhounds.

“I’ve got 40 greyhounds at home – my partner, brother, nephew and mate help me out. Having them at home makes life easy caring for all the dogs.”

Azzopardi’s run of success has been headlined by one of the country’s most inform chasers, Zambora Brockie, who has won 20 of his 33 career starts and has earned $237,313 in prize money. He recently took out both Warrnambool and Horsham Cups.

“He’s definitely one of the best greyhounds I’ve had – he’s earned that title with his deeds on the track.”

Last night’s meeting was the last at Sandown Park for a fortnight, as major upgrades are scheduled for the Club’s kennel block.
