Ryan crowned Top Dog

In the midst of what was an enormous RSN927 Sandown Cup night the winner of the Top Dog Tipping competition was crowned.

Michael Ryan emerged victorious after eight races of keenly contested tipping. It wasn’t until the final race, the RSN927 Sandown Cup, that the result was clear.

“I was nervous prior to the Sandown Cup – I didn’t have Zipping Kane, I knew people behind me on the leader board would have selected him. I thought he had the race won on the home turn and I thought I was gone. Luckily for me he was only able to run third,” said Ryan.

The win and a lift of spirits come at just the right time after Ryan’s father passed away just two weeks ago.

“He trained greyhounds for a lot of his life – he would have been thrilled if he knew I won the competition. We’ve always been involved with greyhounds, my son and I still maintain a strong interest – we’ve got three pet greyhounds at home.”

Ryan competed in every week of the competition but it was in week 3, his final chance to make the final, that he cemented his spot.

“We had a go every week, I was quite surprised that I scraped into the final with 22 points.”

The Top Dog Tipping competition carried a mammoth $10,000 to the overall winner and with that, Ryan has plans to take a holiday up north.

“I suggested we go for a holiday in Queensland, they told me I’d get a good holiday in Queensland for $10,000,” laughed Ryan.
