Wind Whistler Sandown Cup bound


Wind Whistler kicked off his RSN927 Sandown Cup campaign in emphatic style when he took out tonight’s group 3 Lizrene.

Wind Whistler was moderate to begin from box 3 then gained clear running on the inside rail to settle at the head of the field. He made his presence felt down the back straight as built a three length break turning for home. Lioness Lulu and Esparza challenged late however Wind Whistler hung on to win by a length in 41.86.

Kennel representative David Geall was full of praise for Wind Whistler and trainer Angela Langton.

“Angela has always loved this dog, he’s just such a tenacious chaser and never stops trying no matter where he is in the field,” said Geall.

“Angela and her mum have had a lot of success with their dogs and this fella is no exception.”

Geall has proved to be a lucky charm for Wind Whistler, boasting a faultless winning strike rate when handling.

“I’ve handled him five times for five wins – it’s just coincidental,” said a humble Geall.

Later in the night Zipping Kane also announced himself as a contender for this month’s RSN927 Sandown Cup. Zipping Kane took full advantage of box 1 to claim the group 3 Racecallers in 34.00.

Trainer Carolyn Jones was ecstatic post race for what was her first group win at Sandown Park since El Grand Senor’s 2010 Melbourne Cup win.

“I expected him to benefit from last week’s run and he did, it was a good win. It’s been a long time between drinks, I think my last group win here was the Melbourne Cup,” laughed Jones.

With the RSN927Sandown Cup heats just two weeks away, Jones has her sights set on the world’s richest race for stayers.

“He’s probably a run short but the Sandown Cup is our aim with him.”

The RSN927 Sandown Cup heats will be run on Thursday 19 May, with the final to be run the following Thursday.
