D-Day for Speed Star hopefuls


The final round of Bill Collins Speed Star trials will be conducted this afternoon, with 13 greyhounds in contention for the $61,000in prize money up for grabs.

Here’s what you need to know –

NOMINATIONS
13 greyhounds have nominated for the series.

FIELD SELECTION
The 8 fastest greyhounds nominated (plus two reserves) will compete in the Bill Collins Speed Star.

The top five greyhounds have guaranteed their position in the final field, with the final three positions to be determined following Sunday afternoon’s trials.

TRIALS
Three greyhounds – Blazin’ Bomber, Pure Titanium and Invictus Rapid – will trial on Sunday afternoon in order to try and move up the leader board.

The trial schedule is as follows:

  • After race 3 (2.39pm): Blazin’ Bomber
  • After race 4 (3.04pm): Invictus Rapid
  • After race 5 (3.22pm): Pure Titanium

All three trials will shown via Periscope on the club’s Twitter account – @sandowndogs

BOX DRAW
Will be conducted after race 6 at 3.39pm. The draw will be streamed live via the club’s Facebook page.

FORMAT FOR THE FINAL
The final will consist of four, two dog match races.

The box draw will determine the matches – 1v2, 3v4, 5v6, 7v8. All of the odd numbered runners will jump from box 1, the even numbered greyhounds will jump from box 3

The overall result will be determined by each greyhound’s final time.

PRIZE MONEY
The winner of each match will collect $10,000.

The overall winner (the greyhound that records the fastest time) will collect an additional $15,000, with the second fastest greyhound to collect $6000

COVERAGE
TV – All four matches will be shown on Sky Racing 1 (ch519), with special extended coverage hosted by Mark Duclos and Jamie Ennis will feature on Sky Racing 2 (ch520).
