Dundee smashes his prey

Dundee Osprey ended Thursday’s racing with a bang when he set a blistering time in the final race of the night.

Dundee Osprey began well from box seven, much to the surprise of punters. He then gained a huge break down the back straight before going on to win by an increasing 12 ½ lengths in a scintillating 29.11.

The time stands as the fastest for 2016 and trainer, owner and breeder Geoff Scott-Smith was surprised just as much as most after the win.

“I nearly fell over when he began so well, though he has been beginning a bit better lately – with a clear run he goes really well,” said Scott-Smith.

Scott-Smith has been involved in greyhound racing for most of his life however took a 30 year break before returning to sport in recent years.

“I had greyhounds throughout the 70s and 80s though had to give it up as work got busy and I got married.

“A couple years ago I was offered a dog, which I took and got him fit – he went on to win some races and it all started again from there.”

All of Scott-Smith’s greyhounds carry the Dundee prefix, a name that means a lot to the Pakenham South based trainer.

“My mum came from Scotland and she lived in a town called Dundee, unfortunately she died a couple years ago. It come to the time when I needed to name the dogs and I came up with the idea of having a prefix for them, so I chose Dundee.”
