Polijuice polarizes in Australian Sprint

Polijuice Potion produced a show of speed and strength last night at Sandown Park as she claimed the group listed Australian Sprint.

Polijuice Potion bounced out of box one and was a clear leader first time past the post. Pressured by Invictus Rapid and Dyna Tiber down the back straight Polijuice Potion maintained her lead before going on to win comfortably in 29.51.

Trainer Lisa Cockerell was delighted win the win post race.

“She’s got a flat spot mid race but luckily she was too strong and was able to hold them out – we couldn’t be happier with the run she was awesome,” said Cockerell.

Although full of smiles following the triumph Cockerell was relieved after admitting the plan was to nominate Polijuice Potion for the Maidment Memorial, instead mistakenly nominated for the Australian Sprint.

“It was a big, big mistake – I nominated her for the wrong race,” admitted Cockerell.

“I’m putting it down to my blonde hair. Even though she had drawn box one the boss (husband Ian Cockerell) was not happy as we were planning to step her up to 715m. It certainly wasn’t the plan to bring her back to 515m but luckily it’s worked out well.”

There were two noticeable fans of Polijuice Potion, Cockerell’s twins Morgan and Taylor, who weren’t on track to celebrate the win.

“I’m going to be the worst mum in the world when Morgan finds out her dog won a trophy – she’ll be filthy,” laughed Cockerell.

Earlier in the night the Jason Thomson trained Moreira took out the group listed Maidment Memorial in impressive fashion, defeating Full On Bling and Lithgow Panther in a fast 34.01.

Handler on the night, breeder and owner Harry Manolitsis was ecstatic immediately following the race.

“I’m very happy with the run, he began well and was able to match it with the leaders,” said Manolitsis.

“He’s always been a fast greyhound – I’ve been close mates with Jason for about 25 years so I had no hesitation handing Moreira over, he does a great job looking after them.”
