Speed Star: I’m lovin’ it!

For Brooke Ennis and Kelly Bravo, there’s much more at stake than the $10,000 winner’s cheque in the final match of tomorrow night’s Speed Star.

Good friends for over a decade, they live a short drive from each other on opposite sides of the Princes Freeway just north of Geelong, and it’s not uncommon for them to cross paths on their way home from the track at their preferred fast food venue – McDonald’s. The runner up in tomorrow night’s much anticipated clash will be picking up the bill on the way home.

“I’ll be ordering big since Kelly will be shouting,” said Brooke, laughing.

“Nah, not really – she’ll be beat me by a mile I reckon. Kayda Shae is just a classier dog. His run on Sunday was unbelievable really, he showed the type of dog he is.”

Brooke’s greyhound, Armed And Ready, qualified for the series after his blistering 29.185 win in March. That time was trumped by Kelly’s dog, Kayda Shae, which scorched around the track in 29.126 in the final round of qualifying trials last Sunday.

Kelly was less bullish about her dog’s chances.

“He has to get out of the box better than he did on Sunday,” she said.

“He went 5.12 to the first split on Sunday, but he’ll need to get out better than that. It was his first run over 500 for a few weeks and he pulled up really well so I couldn’t be happier with him.”

Win lose or draw, both Kelly and Brooke are supporters of the concept and are excited to be a part of it.

“I like it,” continued Brooke.

“It’s good to be able to see what dogs can do with a clear run, especially those that get caught up a bit in fields.”

Kelly agreed, saying “the amount of interest in the trials was really high. It’s a good concept and has been a great discussion point.”

TAB.com.au currently has Kayda Shae a $1.25 favourite over Armed And Ready ($4) to win the match.

Kayda Shae and Armed And Ready will meet in the last of four matches tomorrow night, the first of which will run at 7.46pm.

The winner of each match will collect $10,000, and the greyhound that records the fastest overall time will pick up an additional $15,000 and be crowned the SPEED STAR.
