Sandown Park Preview: Igor Knocking on the Door

Sandown Park once again conducts a 12 race meeting for metro greyhound racing this Thursday night.

The youngsters clash in the first of the night in the maiden final and Aston Cyus appears really hard to beat based on his slick 29.52 win here on Sunday in his Sandown Park debut (Replay).

The ultra consistent Igor Karkaroff (pictured) lines up in the second of the night drawn box number two. In a race without a lot of early pace, the Ian Cockerell prepared youngster looks set to find a forward position and go one place better than his last four outings, in which he has wound up as the bridesmaid each time.

Akina Akeira has been mixing it in metro class on the staying circuit for well over a month now and she’s never too far away at the finish. Desperately unlucky in her last start placing (Replay), she will only need to produce a similar performance to be in the finish once again at a big price.

It’s fantastic to see racing over all three distances once more, and toward the latter part of the meeting I’m super keen on Dewana Result, who is well placed in a grade five heat over the 595m. The star of the Dewan kennel swept home to a smart 30.11 victory over a handy field at Cranbourne last start (Replay), and he will only need a shade of luck to prove way too classy.

The last of 12 races is set to wrap up at 10.57pm with the first kicking off at 7.09pm, so once again it’s good luck and happy punting on what looks a very tricky and competitive night of racing.

Watch: Akina Akeira (3) ran an unlucky 2nd at Sandown Park last week and a similar performance would see her hard to beat tonight.
