Kayda Shae hoping to turn the tables

Kayda Shae heads into this Thursday’s Victorian National Sprint final as one of the more fancied runners to defeat the flying Fernando Bale.11813416_924899267571276_426016488056577611_n

Trainer Kelly Bravo was delighted with Kayda Shae’s effort in last week’s heat after running a gallant second to Fernando Bale.

“We were wrapped with his run mainly because it was his first 500m run for eight or 9 weeks. His last start he hurt himself at Wentworth Park so he went into last Thursday night having only had a 390m and 400m trial.

“I expected Fernando to get away from him but Kayda Shae really stuck with him and probably took a little bit off him in the end. We were delighted with his run and really happy with how he pulled up, that was the main thing,” said Bravo.

Kayda Shae generated plenty of attention throughout social media for his effort in the heat and is primed to take it up to the champ once again.

“Any other race he probably would of won – he’s going to be a lot better off this week after having a good hit out. He’s drawn really well, he’s never had box one before so hopefully he uses it,” laughed Bravo.

Kayda Shae is just 13 starts into his racing career and has already notched up a group 2 Bulli Gold Cup and was a finalist in the group 2 Warrnambool Cup.

“He’s only just turned 2-years-old – he’s definitely the most exciting young dog in our kennel, we really missed him when he wasn’t racing.”

A chance to be a part of a group 1 final would excite any owner, especially for first time owner Kim Edgar.

“Kim’s a first time owner, she got into the dogs through Brian Parkinson (breeder of Kayda Shae) as they work together. Kayda Shae is named after her and her daughter with her name starting with K they got Kayda and her daughter’s middle name is Shae.”

Kayda Shae’s short racing career sparkles on paper, and large offers were coming thick and fast for the talented youngster.

“She’s knocked back a fair bit of money for him along the way, the offers got quite serious around Warrnambool Cup time. It’s great to see her enjoying him race – she’ll be there cheering on Thursday night.”

Kayda Shae is rated a $4 chance with TAB.com.au and the Bravo team are optimistic of his chances coming into Thursday’s final.

“He began well last week and went 5.01 to the first marker, if he can do that again we think he’ll give himself a big chance – we’re just hoping he does his best and hopefully his best is good enough.”
