Sandown Preview: No More Toying Around!

After numerous minor placings in feature races including five Group 1s, gun stayer Lady Toy – a winner of more than $300,000 in prize money – is poised to finally break her group race duck in Thursday night’s McKenna Memorial at Sandown Park…
.
The Group 2 ‘McKenna Memorial’ headlines a strong card of metropolitan racing at Sandown Park.

The chasing is set to kick off at 7.08pm with Ronray Spirit expected to run a short favourite in the opener from box three. The Terry Reid prepared chaser has dominated the provincial scene over the 2015 year to date with two country cups beside his name. His ability to show early pace should have him leading and therefore proving hard to beat.

Grand Intention produced an incredible performance to win his last outing at Sale (Replay) and given half a clear run here should be really hard to get by.

Don’t forget ‘TAB’ has a crispy $20,000 Quaddie jackpot and with that in mind let’s take a look at the Sandown Park Quaddie, starting with race five. The stayers duel is the first leg and I’ve settled on Love Affair as the one to beat. There’s no doubt her come from behind pattern could have her finding trouble but if she can repeat her last run (Replay) she should be racking up back to back wins. Cosmic Vee Bee appears the cover in the quaddie after he was extremely luckless at Sandown Park on Sunday when in a striking position.

Leg two of the Quaddie looks a supremely even contest with the Melbourne Cup winner Dyna Villa lining up from the draw he claimed the $600,000 event late last year. As for the Quaddie players, I think this is a field job on the ticket.

Race seven, the mixed four and five appears to almost be the consolation for the ‘Mckenna Memorial’ with a hot field engaged. I’d be placing the likes of Whodat Knockin’Dyna YemenCaustic Bale, Angie Rocks and Weblec Rose into my quaddie selections in what looks an extremely hard race to sort out.

The ‘McKenna Memorial’ is the feature of the program at Group 2 level worth $40,000 to the winner. Lady Toy impressed in her heat win (Replay) and is drawn perfectly to follow the wide running speed on her inside, I rate her the best bet of the night. Expected to go around close to favourite, the Brooke Ennis prepared chaser has proven her self in the top grade and appears set to claim the $40,000 winners cheque. As for the jackpot Quaddie, I’ll be playing her as an anchor…. Will you?

The racing is set to wrap up at 10.52pm so good luck punters!
