Sandown Park Preview: Bling on the McKenna Heats

Once again Sandown Park will be amongst the highlights in what looks a sensational week of racing state wide, while Victorian stars Dawkins Bale and Dyna Double One will compete in the $100,000 to-the-winner Group 1 Winter Cup (520m) in Brisbane on Thursday at 8:45pm.

Sandown Park boasts twelve strong races from the metro circuit this Thursday night with the ball set to bounce at 7.09pm and a $20,000 jackpot Quaddie kicking off with Race 5 at 8.28pm.

The racing begins with a restricted one to four win event in which Conspiracy looks set to strike. Racing in super consistent fashion, I expect the Peter Presutto trained son of College Causeway to punch up into the early lead, especially if he can repeat his 5.06 to the first peg last week (Replay).

The ‘McKenna Memorial’ heats feature the night of racing over the 595m and I like the chances of Full On Bling, who lines up in the first of five heats. Drawn to miss the early battle for the lead, I’ll be hoping he can drop on to the rail behind the speed and based on his extremely good luckless placing at Cranbourne last start (Replay) he should prove hard to catch.

The second heat appears a cracking race on paper with some superb sprint form clashing over the 595m. The likes of Weblec BelleAllen Deed and Caustic Bale look set to produce a tremendous battle in the fourth of the night which will be well worth watching.

Secret Spell (pictured) as been timing the start to perfection of late and stepping back up to the middle distance should only assist her in getting a massive break and soft lead in her respective heat. She has been outpacing some very handy free for all fields (Replay) and her assignment on Thursday doesn’t seem to have a stack of early speed to pressure her, hence the reason I think she’ll win again.

As the meeting draws toward a close I’m super keen on the chances of Rumero Reason to place in what does appear a tough challenge for the Andrea Dailly prepared chaser. I’m also keen on Weston East, who once again looks hard to beat as he’s really found his form in the top grade of late.

The racing comes to an end at 10.55pm so good luck and happy punting and we’ll hope to fill our pockets for the mighty Fernando in Friday’s Bendigo Cup.
