No Stopping Space Star

The richest staying race in the world will be conducted this Thursday night at Melbourne’s Sandown Park. The nation’s best stayers go head to head in the quarter of a million dollar event, the RSN Sandown Cup (715m).

The program begins at 7.05pm with a strong grade 5 over the 515m. After being nabbed on the post by his kennel mate last week, Armed And Ready is exactly as his name suggests for the first on the card. From the rails alley I’m expecting the Brooke Ennis prepared chaser to drive up into the early lead and after showing tip top mid race pace last week (Replay), he will simply outclass them. The first of the two features gets underway at 8.52pm as Race 6. All eyes will be firmly set on the inside alley as Australia’s most inform, (possibly best) greyhound Fernando Bale steps out in the Group 3 best eight ‘Bill Collins’ Memorial (515m). After a devastating show of dominance in the Group 1 ‘Harrison Dawson’  last week the super star should be winning again.

The cup night stayers Group Listed event looks perfect for Dzeko who quite simply found herself too far back mid race last week. With a drop in class and a shade more early pace she should be winning. I thought the run of Julie Bale was good in the heats of the RSN Sandown Cup was good as she was held up at the end of the back straight at a vital stage (Replay) and drawn to show more speed in this event I’m confident she will place.

The 2015 ‘RSN Sandown Cup’ seems to have Space Star (pictured above) already pencilled in. But seven other greyhounds will have there rubbers primed looking to put themselves into the history books. Off a breathtaking 41.26 win in his heat (Replay), Space Star looks primed to rack up yet another Group 1 win and carry his career prize money to in excess of $625,000. From the wide alley he will loop the field and be easily the one to beat. I expect a big performance from the defending champ Sweet It Is and I’m confident she will be finishing off second. I then think Lady ToyLove Affair and Zipping Maggie will cross the line in that order for the richest staying race in the world.

With plenty happening on and off the track including your chance to win $100,000 in prizes, be there and tune in to RSN Carnival and I’ll chat to you then with my in depth look and each at every race including some chats with the big players! See you then… Happy punting.
