Iva Vision was ultra impressive in his Victorian debut, having taken out Prelude 11 of the TAB Melbourne Cup.
Bred and owned in Queensland, Iva Vision was only moderate to begin from box two, before he found a slice of luck around the first corner to settle third down the back straight.
The South Australian Derby winner was quick to pounce on leader National Time and took over around the final bend, to win by five lengths in best of night time of 29.43.
Brian Young, father of trainer Peter Young, was pleased with the run.
“He never gets out of the box too well, it was lucky he found a clear run around the bend it left him in a good position down the back straight.” said Young.
The run wasn’t the first time Iva Vision has visited Sandown Park, having recently trialled at the View Road circuit.
“I flew down from Queensland with him last Wednesday to trial – he went 29.28 in his first look at the track which we were very impressed with”.
Iva Vision has now cemented his spot in a heat of the $600,000 TAB Melbourne Cup, however it will take a heat win for trainer Peter Young to make the trip to Sandown Park.
“I’ll be bringing him back down for the heats – to be quite honest Peter is a little scared of boarding a plane, if he (Iva Vision) can make the final I’m sure Peter will make the trip down.” Young laughed.
Neil Bell’s Bazza’s Gift also booked his spot in a heat of the TAB Melbourne Cup, having claimed Prelude 12 in 29.62.
Bell was delighted with the win, a reward after some recent issues with the greyhound.
“I’ve had a heap of problems getting his blood right over the last six or seven weeks though it’s finally come good, he’s a different dog when 100%,” said Bell.
Kiss Me Ketut was also among the winners of tonight’s Preludes. Last year’s TAB Melbourne Cup finalist was quick to begin from box seven and led all the way to win by 10 lengths in 29.66.
Trainer Andrea Dailly notched up a winning double earlier in the night, with Ollie Bale and Humphrey Bale having both won their respective Prelude.
All five of tonight’s Prelude winners automatically qualify for the heats of the TAB Melbourne Cup on Thursday 13 November, with the $600,000 final to be run on Friday 21 November.
